Medicine Hat lived up to its reputation today as the sunniest place in Canada – evidently, an average of 330 days of sun per year! We walked to the historic area of downtown, admired its old architecture, and sat by the “world’s biggest chess board” while listening to a free JazzFest concert on the city’s Esplanade. We’re not sure about the chess board claim as we’ve seen one of the same size on the patio of Victoria’s Blue Crab restaurant; however, Medicine Hat probably does have the single, biggest chess piece in the world.
