On day one, driving from just outside Winnipeg to Crystal Lake Campground, 90 km east of Kenora, the scenery seemed to change suddenly from the Prairies to the forests, lakes and exposed rock of the Canadian Shield, just as it had suddenly seemed to change from mountains to prairie when we left the Rockies heading east from Calgary. We had a relaxing three days including a hike around the lake as well as visiting Blue Lake. The weather was great with daytime highs in the low 20s and, although the mosquitoes weren’t bad, we were very happy to be able to retreat to our dome tent or inside the boler equipped with a Magic Mesh door. Without them we would’ve spent a lot of time inside the trailer with the door closed.

“ …exposed rock of the Canadian Shield…”
Spoken like a real geologist – I trained you well, Jonty! Lol
Glad to see you guys making progress across this vast country.
You and the book were my inspiration, Phil! I only wish I had 1% of your knowledge (or could’ve retained more from the book) so I could truly appreciate what I’m looking at.
Cela ressemble un peu plus à l’été.
Vous vous approchez du Québec. On a vraiment hâte de vous voir.
Jonty and Chantal, you are role models! I am watching and learning and dreaming. XO
I’m finally catching up on your adventure and your pictures are incredible! It’s great to see the 3 of you having such a good time, even if Misty has a lot to say while you’re driving. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us here 🙂
Thanks Jas! The trip is exceeding our expectations – I can’t speak for Misty of course. : )
